<![CDATA[Gospel Recording Artist Mighty Men Of Faith - Blog]]>Fri, 18 May 2012 20:41:21 -0800Weebly<![CDATA[The Word Wrong]]>Wed, 07 Mar 2012 08:58:47 -0800http://mightymenoffaith.com/1/post/2012/03/the-word-wrong.htmlMuch discussion is being held among my associates regarding the use of the word wrong.
Some take exception to being told that they are wrong in anyway. It is my belief that in some instances there is no other way to correct a situation unless you keep it real by saying that what is being done or said is wrong. I believe there are some absolute wrongs. Certainly it is wrong to deliberately murder someone without justification. It is also wrong to make knowingly a falsehood about someone that imprudes his or her reputation and character. There are other less dire wrongs. Lets take for example that of a person singing or playing in an ensemble where everything is in a the key of C and a member of the ensemble is singing or playing there part in a key that is not compatible with the key of C. I submit that the only way to correct that is to say you are playing the wrong key the music we are playing is in the Key of C. If there are eleven eggs in a basket and you say there are ten that is without question wrong. In the aforementioned situation if there is no correction there is no learning and/or growth.

I concur that the word wrong is certainly inappropriate when the discussion is about preference. For example, if you are going to a particular destination and one takes the freeway and another gets there by city streets. Neither is right nor wrong it is simply a preference. Also, with moral issues or personal opinion, each persons view should be considered as neither right nor wrong. As each person’s moral position or opinion is based on what they have experienced, learned and believe.

The question really is whether there is another word other than wrong that can be used.

The definition of the word wrong is incorrect, inappropriate, not suitable, reverse or opposite. There are a number of synonyms: amiss, bad, improper, unacceptable, unfit, unsuitable, unseemly, or undesirable. In my opinion none of the words are more appropriate for use than the word wrong. However, the word incorrect may be more palatable.

What do you think?
